Spencer Sweeney and Andrew Kuo, both multi-instrumentalists and visual artists, represent a scene of culturally ravenous artists and individuals whose uncompromisingly creative vision is the lifeblood of New York City’s downtown. The two have gathered their circle of creatives to essentially resurrect the cult favorite residency Sessions at Santa’s and expand its vision, resulting in a new social experiment dedicated to freedom entitled EMERGENCY PARTY.

At the helm of the roster of residents are Lizzi Bouagatsos (IUD) and Brian Degraw (Smiths Night), also of Gang Gang Dance, throwing down unpredictable sets. Also confirmed are DJ’s Tim Barber, Nick Relph, Rachel Chandler, Sweeney and Kuo will be hitting the decks themselves, and in the house will be MC’s Telfar, Shayne, Allan (The Legend). “Freedom Jams” are the name of the game, and the mammoth upstairs system at Santos will be blasting tunes to expand the mind and coax the will to dance. The party will also feature guest appearances, live sets, pop-up art sessions and oddball curators on a weekly basis. Weird is back with a vengeance.

June 12's installment of DISCOVERY will feature Codebreaker, a neo-disco duo that transcends space and time with zealous grooves and soul claps. Imagine running the Matrix's digital signal through a vintage drum machine. They have shared the stage with the likes of The Electric Six, Hot Chip, Phoenix and Drop The Lime.Plus residents VDRK and Free Magic.

STREETLAB
Fans of rock and dance music alike have New York City duo Streetlab to thank for creating catchy and danceable versions of some of their favorite tunes. Since 2001, friends Mark “Cosmo” Lamorg and Ryan Leary have been exploring the pastiche between classic rock tunes and their rump-shaking potential with an irresistible formula for electronic remixes. After years of re-inventing popular tracks such as The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” the pair began venturing into writing original material, including “NYSound,” a single that has generated a multi-faceted degree of buzz and coverage since its 2008 release. Since gaining the support of various top-notch radio DJs and record labels, and receiving praise from media outlets from the likes of Billboard Magazine and URB.com, Streetlab is gearing up to release its full-length debut, slated for an April 2010 release. THE HUSH NOW
Treading the line between dusty early 90's indie and the melancholy pop of the oughts, The Hush Now achieve the artisanship that puts them heads above their peers. They garnered widespread media attention when they released their David Newton-produced EP online before playing a single live show. Their Boston brewed sound is a refreshing diversion for the New York underground.

BOTTLE UP & GO
Slide guitar – hell yes. The brash two-piece garage outfit is becoming quite a sensation in Brooklyn, Middletown, and nearby galaxies. A smooth, powerful voice, well-articulated riffs and jackhammer drums are the hallmarks of their bombastic sound.

DAS RACIST (DJ SET)
Since emerging out of the ether not more than two years ago, Das Racist have become the most sought-after force in experimental hip-hop. The trio eschews any posturing whatsoever in lieu of confronting the truth, however brutal or bizarre it may be, on top of off-kilter electro production. Their breakout single "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" has become rap music's most successful foray into absurdism, but the real meat of their lyrical repertoire are the densely constructed prophetic commentaries on globalization-era oppression, as well as hilarious multi-syllabic throught trains as unpredictable as the subways on which they were written.

OPEN, the invincible Friday night presented by resident DJ and hip-hop polymath Q-Tip has been shaking asses and winning awards ("Best DJ Night" - PAPER MAG) since its inception a year and a half ago, and we decided party people were a half a year overdue for a "thank you." So we've stacked the weekly bill with invincible headlining DJ's, including the temporal genius Questlove, [edit]urban-electro prodigy A-Trak , underground staple Stretch Armstrong [/edit], and the key innovator of turntable protocol Grandmaster Flash. Leading the pack this Friday will be DJ Scratch, who has created keynote beats for the likes of EPMD, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J and many more. Also, we've refined our reggae game in the basement with the help of DJ Gravy, making Friday night at Santos the ultimate destination for Carribean sound as well. Joining him are Max Glazer and Micro Don, who both hold down dance floors with unmatched finesse. In the words of Rakim, "This is how it should be done."
