If we are to take Proverbs at its word that “Truth stands the test of time,” then the Friday night reOPENed party at Santos Party House is most certainly the truth. When OPEN became reOPENed in January 2010, many were understandably nervous about the overhaul of a staple residency, but those worries were soothed when the lauded producer Just Blaze took the headlining DJ slot, boosting attendance and ushering in a bright new era for New York City nightlife. With him came DJ Soul, an underground mixtape maestro and favorite spinner of hip-hop’s industry elite. DJ Gravy and Max Glazer (Federation Sound) of the Rice & Peas crew with their inimitable MC Micro Don remain holding down the basement level, which has proven time and time again to be Manhattan’s favorite weekly spot for modern Caribbean music. Steve Lewis, legendary club architect and owner, wrote in his BlackBook Magazine column, “This Santos Party is fantastic and I’m going to try to be a regular. I advise you to be there as well…. It was joyous mayhem as girls way too hot for me grabbed me and dragged me to the dancefloor.” Guests have included Pete Rock, Mannie Fresh, Clark Kent, Stretch Armstrong, Jay Electronica, ?uestlove, Spragga Benz, Thirston Howl III, Jasmine Solano.

In honor of reOPENed’s one year anniversary, our special guest DJ will be A-Trak, his feet firmly planted both in electro and hip-hop, standing as one of the final guardians of turntablism for his generation. With a discography that boasts production and remixes for Lupe Fiasco and Kid Sister, MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize, The Rub, Kanye West, and Non-Phixion, he has served as a human melting pot for multiple urban styles. Trivia junkies might want to note that he holds the record for youngest DMC World Champion (age 15), and that he is the younger brother of David Macklovitch (Chromeo) with whom he runs the Audio Research label. In 2010 he and Just Blaze announced a forthcoming house music 12”.
