Outernational, Uzuhi and London Souls LIVE Saturday!!
Friday, April 2nd
7:00 PM 18+
TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE
OUTERNATIONAL
In the grand tradition of subversive and politically incendiary punk, Outernational are carrying the torch for the new strain, mixing in elements of klezmer, electronica and reggae with a driving guitar-based sound. Their debut album Future Rock was produced by Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Streetsweeper Social Club), who pronounced them “the next big thing.” The band has an easily approachable sound that reveals new and interesting layers with each listen, incorporating woodwinds and trumpets. In an age where mounting political turmoil meets increasing apathy, Outernational provides energy for the revolutionary in you.
UZUHI
The disjointed, spontaneous and bipolar punk-pop of Uzuhi comes to us by way of Japan, though they’ve made the underground NYC scene their home. And yes, you can keep your shoes on. Wild swings from soothing ditties to wild screaming explosions of rage, plus a healthy dose of keyboards, horn sections and Japanese strings make them a technically proficient and memorable experience. Would mix nicely with The Sex Pistols, Shugo Takumaru, and Monotonix.
THE LONDON SOULS
Guitar rock lives. The London Souls are the slick modern take on the psychedelic blues of yore. They faithfully channel the musicianship and tambors of Jimi Hendrix and The Who, plus years of garage rock and afro-punk has informed their clever songwriting and driving tones. For a three-piece, their sound is absolutely enormous.

LOVE OF DIAGRAMS
While much of the indie scene has become a rat race for pop hooks and advertisement-friendly pseudo-jingles, Melbourne’s Love of Diagrams presents a refreshingly pure and gritty brand of alternative rock that ties unnerving noise textures to pulsating post-punk grooves. While they enjoy flattering comparisons to Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and Siouxsie and the Banshees, their tendencies towards no-wave repetition give them a groundbreakingly distinct sound.
In 2003, two years after their formation, Love of Diagrams earned their international acclaim with the release of their album The Target Is You, setting them off on a tour-blazing spree. Since then they have played with and supported Death Cab For Cutie, Sonic Youth, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Stereolab and Les Savy Fav to name a few. 2007’s Mosaic was produced by Bob Weston (Mission of Burma), and their new album Nowhere Forever has been likened to “giddy textural rush that feels like watching a gaseous planet rotate with time-lapsed poignancy” (Mess And Noise). Santos is happy to be square in the path of the most tidal of no-wave.
HOLIDAY SHORES
The jaunty, off-kilter garage pop of Holiday Shores is packaged in layers of windy effects and echoes, creating their own harmonies and overtones as the music marches along. The mixture of demented textures and bright, summery songwriting results in a thrilling, unique performance for the seasoned post-rocker.
JAPANSTER
Electro-rock composer Japanster takes the intensity of the US underground indie scene and fuses it with a European electro aesthetic resulting in a dancefloor-rocking whirlwind of tuneful jams. A prolific remixer and producer, his music rocks body and mind equally.

Mickey Factz Live!
Built by MeanRed
Thursday, April 1

from Facebook
Bronx-born spitter Mickey Factz graced the covers of XXL as a "rapper to watch in '09". But over the year, as his fan base grew, he hung back and kept a low profile. We soon found out that this was a tactical move: On New Year's Day 2010, he dropped an experimental mixtape as the first part of his #Alpha series. The mixtape, called The Dark Pheonix, showcases left-field beats, guests musicians such as Pheonix, and of course, his lyrical double dutch. Unlike a lot of emerging hip hop artists, Mickey's rhymes boast both swagger and intellect. His songs are dense and meaty... a refreshing break from bubble-gum rap that relies on airhorns and "ayyyy's". If Dark Pheonix is an early indicator of the year Mickey is about to have, we're all ears.
On April 1st, he will be joined by hometown heroes Telephoned. This dynamic duo was born one night in Brooklyn when DJ/producer Sammy Bananas (Fool's Gold) and singer/party starter Maggie Horn (Good Peoples) decided to record their own version of T-Pain's "Can't Believe It." Their track was neither remix nor cover - instead, the duo fashioned a postmodern take on both, warping the original beat into a hypnotic club track and bringing out the dreamy qualities only hinted at in Pain's auto-tuned melodies. Whether morphing Ron Browz "Pop Champagne" into a spacey dancefloor gem ("Bottle service electro meets Triplets Of Belleville" says Ms Horn), dubstepping "Turn My Swag On," or re-imagining DJ Webstar's "Dancin On Me" as a BK funky anthem, these Telephoned covers are instantly addictive and massively charming.
Also on deck is Brooklyn-based producer, Machinedrum. He has been crafting beats for the most exciting emerging electro acts in the city, and showcases them through his famous CassetteNYC parties. His style is a mixture of "instrumental hip hop, soul-stylin’, vintage synths and rich, structured glitchiness." He is joined by BET’s 106th and Park favorite, Jesse Boykins III. This 24-year-old soulster rides the consummate balance between experimental electro-soul and commercial R&B.

FIXED Presents: Aeroplane + Blondes and Annie Mac, NEW RESIDENCY in April!
March 16th with AEROPLANE (Belgium) and Blondes (NYC) live
10PM doors, 21+TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE
AEROPLANE
Javelo, the Brussels-raised duo consisting of Stephen Fasano & Vito De Luca, were burning along nicely in Europe, their production grace shining on numerous 12” most notably “Spleen” and their famous remix of Thomas Sari’s “Tom Hustler.” But they were dissatisfied that their lifelong dedication to multi-instrumentalism had not taken a more prominent role. So they regrouped in 2007, naming themselves Aeroplane as a dig against the bass-obsessed electro scene and as a statement that airy, spaced-out composition was to be the key element of their sound.
Continuing their 12” spree, Aeroplane unleashed charting original jams, like the brutally infectious disco-psych smash “Pacific Air Race,” as well as heavily rotated official remixes for Grace Jones, MGMT and Sebastien Tellier to name a few. Their DJ sets are as seamlessly arranged as their tracks, blending in the best of house and electro with the more esoteric feels of balaeric, italo and trance. MixMag named them the #1 breakthrough of 2009, and they have become highly demanded festival acts, appearing at the gigantic European Creamfield and Parklife gatherings.

BLONDES
Zach Steinman and Sam Haar started Blondes as a way to fill the Oberlin College atmosphere with minimalistic analog electro set to untamed dancegrooves. XLR8R predicts, "With a spacey aesthetic and a loose, analog techno sound, their forthcoming EP on Merok will certainly be a hot commodity when it drops in the months ahead."
"Moondance" - Blondes (c/o Grey Gardens)

JELLYBEAN BENITEZ at Dance.Here.Too
Saturday, March 13 11:00PM 21+
TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE
John "Jellybean" Benitez is nothing short of a forefather of discotheque selection, a multi-instrumental genius, and a chart-topping producer. After polishing his chops in the post-war South Bronx, he became a resident DJ at Studio 54 and the many genesis points of disco music. By the 80’s he was composing and producing artists like Debbie Harry, Sheena Easton, his erstwhile girlfriend Madonna’s first hits, as well as his own radio favorites “Sidewalk Talk” and “The Mexican,” which drew from his involvement with the cultures of hip-hop and latin music. Back when the word “re-mix” required a hyphen, he was one of the first to make an art form of retooling other musicians’ works. Some of the first official, label-sanctioned remixes were his, rehashing tracks by Afrika Bambaataa, Whitney Houston, The Pointer Sisters, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. In 2005 he was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame, and he currently owns and operates his own recording, producing and publishing imprints. His DJ sets betray his eclectic aesthetic, a mixture of deep house, classic disco, hip-hop, latin, electro and pop music, together making for a frenetic experience in dance that is intrinsically New York City.

THE CASUALTIES (20 years strong), The Unseen and more on March 28
Sunday, March 28th 6pm ALL AGES
TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE -- $7
THE CASUALTIES
In 1990 there were a lot of reasons to worry about the future of street punk, as much of the attention it once enjoyed was at that point directed to warmer, friendlier areas of underground rock. Ecuadorian immigrant Jorge Herrera, however, had a taste for the gritty, subversive and community-oriented punk that identified with New York City’s underground though it was all but gone from the mainstream since the mid 80’s. He formed The Casualties who, like their forerunners The Exploited and Discharge, sought to combine old school oi punk from across the pond with the hardcore/thrash crossover sounds being explored by the Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front.
The Casualties’ first self-released EP 40 oz Casualty became an underground hit, with tornado-like basslines and chainsaw guitars defying the limits of lo-fi audio. Though their first years limited their profound notoriety within local confines, the loss of Herrera’s day-job meant the transformation of the band into a full-time, internationally acclaimed punk entity, appearing at the Holidays in the Sun Festival in London and putting out their first full-length in 1997. Their trademark sound is breakneck fast, saturated with meaty riffs, battlecry vocals and punishing drums all neatly packaged into 1-3 minute anthems, with elements of ska and reggae strewn about. In 2004, with the Iraq conflagration in its earliest stages, they release On The Front Line, shifting the primary theme of their lyrics from squatters’ meditations to world politics.
The Casualties’ uncompromisingly street sound in the face of changing trends has set them apart, making them a treasure within the punk scene. They have played alongside Leftover Crack, Youth Brigade and Municipal Waste. Their ascension to the Warped Tour ranks and even the occasional MTV2 play speaks more to the purity of their sound than their adherence to the ironically fickle standards of punk credibility. Their 2009 LP We Are All We Have has been praised by Sputnik Music as a “a ballsy, working man punk album.” At Santos Party House on March 28th, they will be celebrating 20 years of perseverance and the use of hard music to channel the essence of New York City.
THE UNSEEN
Few can boast the ability to mesh catchy hooks with the brashest of hardcore sounds as well as The Unseen. For 17 years, they have dominated Boston’s punk scene with their invincible sound and incendiary socio-political commentary. They have played alongside Sick Of it All, Rancid, The Bouncing Souls and Hatebreed on stages throughout the world, and have releases on the A-F, Fat Wreck, Epitaph and Hellcat imprints.
VIOLENT SOCIETY
Two decades of pillaging the punk scene has made Violent Society a well-oiled chaos machine. While they have mastered hardcore, street punk and pop punk textures, their guitars stand out, classified by clever riffs and wall-of-sound production. They have played alongside nearly legendary street punk act including GBH, Exploited, The Subhumans, Anti-Flag, The Dropkick Murphys and DOA.
GUILT TRIP
The unadulterated sound of Guilt Trip is fuelled by beer-addled debauchery and a soaring, dual-guitar approach to street punk riffs. Their notoriously energetic shows are the cathartic manifestation of gutter-style chaos.

BlackBook's Steve Lewis: reOPENed Fridays (with Just Blaze) is "Joyous Mayhem"
It's a miracle that one can work in the nightlife industry for as long as Steve Lewis has while maintaining the faculty to speak about it coherently, let alone with the articulation and insight he displays in his BlackBook Magazine column. Lewis is known as the interior designer and erstwhile operator of numerous unhyperlinkable clubs and restaurants throughout the country including Marquee, Tao (Las Vegas), Butter and Aspen Social Club. Today he heads The Nightlife Preservation Society, an organization that advocates on behalf of nightclubs and venues in the face of policies that threaten the culture. In his newest BlackBook installment he shines light on the prejudiced door policies sweeping the scene like a malaise, and provides Santos as the welcome juxtaposition. Specifically, he praises our REOPENED Friday residency as the gold standard in partying despite the post-Jim Crow outlook.
This wouldn't be the first time that the Godfather of Nightlife has shown us some love. Nevertheless, it would do us all well to heed his advice.
The acclaimed RE-OPEN-ED now features DJ Just Blaze and DJ Soul Upstairs with DJs Gravy, Max Glazer and MC Micro Don downstairs. Just Blaze (from the press release) is “the multi-platinum producer and remixer who has laid tracks for Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Beastie Boys, Mariah Carey, MF Doom, Janet Jackson, Jay Electronica, Kanye West and many more.” It’s classic hip-hop, house, soul classics, electronic disco and absolutely fantastic. The crowd is a dance crowd, mixed and hot. That’s writers speak to say that there are more non-white people there than in most of the so called “great clubs” around town.
....
This Santos Party is fantastic and I’m going to try to be a regular. I advise you to be there as well. Downstairs I caught my old friend and mainstay Spa Club DJ Max Glazer with Micro Don [and DJ Gravy]. It was joyous mayhem as girls way too hot for me grabbed me and dragged me to the dancefloor. It wasn’t pretty from there, although it made people laugh--and how can that be bad? Santos Party House is what is left of the days of yore. Our complaints, laments and nostalgic waxings are easily answered by their Friday night party.
